The Geminids meteor shower peaks from Amsterdam around Dec 13-14, with up to 120 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. In 2026 a thin crescent moon leaves mostly dark skies, and from Amsterdam the radiant in Gemini climbs to 70° above the south horizon around 02:40. Local best viewing window: 20:45–06:35 CET on the peak night, about 9.8 hours of astronomical darkness. Scaled to that altitude, the 120/hour headline figure works out to roughly 113 meteors an hour from Amsterdam under a genuinely dark sky. Tonight: widespread cloud, with little clear sky forecast.
