The Geminids meteor shower peaks from Helsinki around Dec 13-14, with up to 120 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. In 2026 a thin crescent moon leaves mostly dark skies, and from Helsinki the radiant in Gemini climbs to 62° above the south horizon around 02:20. Local best viewing window: 20:05–06:30 EET on the peak night, about 10.4 hours of astronomical darkness. Scaled to that altitude, the 120/hour headline figure works out to roughly 106 meteors an hour from Helsinki under a genuinely dark sky. Tonight: unbroken cloud; conditions are as poor as they get.
