The Lyrids meteor shower peaks from Zurich around Apr 22, with up to 18 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. In 2026 a half moon will wash out fainter meteors, and from Zurich the radiant in Lyra climbs to 71° above the south-east horizon around 04:20. Local best viewing window: 23:35–04:20 CEST on the peak night, about 4.8 hours of astronomical darkness. Scaled to that altitude, the 18/hour headline figure works out to roughly 17 meteors an hour from Zurich under a genuinely dark sky. Tonight: mostly cloud-free — light pollution will be the limiting factor.
