The Leonids meteor shower peaks from Oslo around Nov 17, with up to 15 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. In 2026 a thin crescent moon leaves mostly dark skies, and from Oslo the radiant in Leo climbs to 51° above the south horizon around 05:50. Local best viewing window: 01:30–05:50 CET on the peak night, about 4.3 hours of astronomical darkness. Scaled to that altitude, the 15/hour headline figure works out to roughly 12 meteors an hour from Oslo under a genuinely dark sky. Tonight: clear skies forecast, so a dark site is worth the drive.
